A Pew Moments with Perry – I Want to Be the Least Productive
A strange thought keeps entering my mind. I want to be the least productive in God’s kingdom. I want to work less than others. I want to have the fewest success stories. I want this congregation to be the slowest in growth.
Now this might sound I like want to be lazy, like I want to fail. That is the exact opposite. My productivity is only by God’s grace (1 Cor.15:9-10). Paul isn’t saying he WANTS to be the most (fill in the blank), but rather that he is by God’s grace. I want God’s grace, but I want others to have it even more. That means success in God’s kingdom!
If I am very productive, how much more glory is there to God if others are more so?! I want to work hard, so hard, that if others are being blessed more, that means they are working harder and being blessed higher. I am not the standard though. Grace is my standard – “by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain” (1 Cor.15:10). Grace is my standard.
