Some Things That Will Help Christians Grow
To be strong and steadfast in the Lord, we must
become spiritual mature. We begin as spiritual babes and we grow into adults.
Here are some things that will assist us in that growth.
1. A desire to grow! 1 Peter 2:2 says: "As newborn babe,
desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby." Also
see Hebrews 5:11-14. Jesus said: "Blessed are they which do hunger and
thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." (Matthew 5:6)
2. Diligence, meditation & faithful in learning God’s Word.
(See 2 Timothy 2:15; 1 Peter 3:15; 1 Timothy 4:15-16).
3. Purity of heart. Proverbs 4:23 says: "Keep thy heart
with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." Jesus said:
"But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the
heart; and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts,
murders, adulteries…" (Matthew 15:18-20) Matthew 5:8 says: "Blessed
are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."
4. Think Right! Proverbs 23:7 says: "For as he thinketh in
his heart, so is he…" (Also see Romans 12:3; Philippians 4:8)
5. Speak Right! The psalmist said: "Let the words of my
mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my
strength, and my redeemer." (Psalms 19:14) In Ephesians 4:25, 29 Paul
said: "Wherefore, putting away lying, speak every man truth with his
neighbor…" and "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of
your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister
grace unto the hearers."
6. Act Right! James said: "So speak ye, and so do, as they
that shall be judge by the law of liberty." (James 2:12) Also see
Revelation 22:14; Matthew 7:21; Hebrews 5:9; etc. Pray daily. Assemble with the
saints each time they gather. (Hebrews 10:25)
7. A Balanced Spiritual Diet! We need a balanced diet if we are to
develop spiritually as we should. We are to live by "every word of God"
(Luke 4:4) Also see 2 Timothy 2:14-16 We need all of God’s Word. We should not
get "hung up" on one or two subjects.
8. Spiritual Exercise! (See Hebrews 5:12-14; Titus 3:1; 1 Timothy
6:3-6)
9. Seek God and His Kingdom First! (See Matthew 6:25-34)
