1. (EZEK. 16:20,21) Consider Israel's apostasy; idolatrous and wicked
practices; circumstances behind God's charge..."You have slaughtered My
children." (cf. PSA 127:3). Those were very cruel and barbaric times!
2. Since 1973 aproximately 25 million innocent, living unborn..."babes"
(God's choice of word) have been slaughtered in our own nation!
3. Statistically, this makes the most dangerous, life-threatening position
for an American child to be in is in his or her mother's womb. America's
bloodiest war, the Civil War, cost 500,000 lives. Abortion has cost
25,000,000!
4. How long can our society accept and even promote such a tragic loss of
human life without it affecting our sensibilities? Rendering us calloused?
Cruel? It is already happening!
I. THE LAW OF THE LAND
A. Abortion is Legal at this Time
1. Legality does not make an immoral thing moral
2. Another legal but immoral act examined (MATT 2:16; cf. ACTS 4:19,20;
5:29)
B. Short Historical Perspective on Abortion in the U.S.A.
II. DEVELOPMENT OF THE PREBORN
A. Dramatic Growth in the First Trimester
1. All bodily systems present and functioning. No new systems to be added;
only additional growth and development. Infant squints, moves tongue,
sucks thumb, makes fist
2. Those who favor abortion cringe at the sight of a fetus at this stage, do not want you to see it because it's obviously a human being (PSA 139:13-16)
B. Ridiculous Attempts to Suggest the Fetus is not Human
1. "We're not sure if it is" (Not sure, so do we kill him/her, or protect?)
2. Shirley McClain's broken limb (Arbitrarily decided that at 6th month the baby becomes a human)
III. REASONS WHY ABORTIONS ARE OBTAINED
A. Many Reasons
1. 75% because the mother is not married to the father
2. Inconvenient
3. Concern about the "quality of life"
4. Wrong gender
5. Conception caused by rape or incest (extremely rare!)
6. Therapeutic; to save life of mother (extremely rare!)
IV. METHODS OF ABORTION
A. Method of sacrificing a child to the god Molech (JER
7:30,31).Molech's metallic hands cupped, fire underneath, glowing hot, baby placed on hands and burned alive. Gruesome!
B. Methods of Abortion (Describe infant's reaction in these procedures. How much different is this from
Molech?)
1. D&C
2. Salt poisoning
3. Hysterectomy
4. Prostaglandin chemical
V. THE BIBLE AND THE UNBORN
A. For the Christian, the Question is a Moral One
1. Note the importance of terms the Bible uses to identify the unborn
2. Note that a man "becomes the father of" or "begats" at conception (GEN 5:28-30). A human father
only produces human offspring, and his role is doing so is finished at conception
3. That which the medical world calls a "fetus" is called by God a "child." (Hebrew = ben" =
"child") (GEN 25:21,22; II KINGS 19:3; ISA 37:3; etc.)
4. Job was a ..."man-child" or "boy" from conception (JOB3:3; see also REV 12:5)
5. "sons" applies to those within the womb (RUTH 1:11)
6. Greek = "blephos" = "baby" (LUKE 1:41,44; 2:16)without regard to whether still in the womb or
post birth
7. A "son" from conception and previous to birth (LUKE 1:36,57)
B. Controversy in Exodus
1. (EX 21:22-25) Only passage in the Bible which deals specifically with harming the unborn
2. Not referring to intentional act, but to carelessness that might cause harm to a baby in the womb at
any stage of development. The woman is "with child"
3."Fruit" = "yeled". This is the only place it is so translated; usually translated "child" etc.
4. "depart" or "miscarriage" literally "her children come out"; i.e premature birth.
5. If harm comes (to either mother or child) then same law applies as when any human being is
harmed
CONCLUSION
1. Must respect human life; treat it with dignity or suffer the
consequences. What kind of heritage are we leaving those of our children
who survive this first ordeal of life?
2. Will some future generation look
back at us with the same disgust with which we look back at the Molech
worshippers?
3. Whatever the future holds, face it as a faithful child of
God.
