A. Moses will always be remembered as the great leader who lead the nation of Israel out of their Egyptian bondage.

B. Although Moses was the key person instrumental (other than Jehovah) in the Israelites being freed, he did have some help.

C. Exodus 4:10-16 records how Aaron came to be the spokesman for Moses.

D. It is the purpose of this lesson to examine the life of Aaron and to see what we can learn form his life.

I. AARON: A BRIEF HISTORY.

A. Aaron was of the tribe of Levi, the son of Amram and Jochebed. (Ex. 6:20)

B. Aaron was the brother of two other children, Miriam and Moses. Aaron was three years older than Moses. (Ex. 7:7)

C. Aaron married Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab. Aaron and Elisheba had four sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. (Ex. 6:23)

D. For the first 83 years of his life, Aaron lived as a slave in Egypt.

Helping Moses, Aaron was instrumental in the freeing of the Israelites from the Egyptian bondage.

E. After the Israelites were freed from bondage, Aaron served for about 40 years as the high priest of God's people.

F. Aaron died in the 123rd year of his life. He died on Mt. Hor. (Num.

33:38-39)

A. Aaron came to the aid of Moses to help Moses communicate with the people of Israel. (Ex. 4:14-16)

B. Aaron stood by Moses' side when Moses faced Pharaoh. Aaron held with confidence the rod which the Lord used to show His power. (Ex. 7:10-13)

C. Aaron, with Hur, held up the hands of Moses in the day the Israelites battled the Amalekites. (Ex. 17:8-13)

D. Aaron assisted Moses in leading the Israelites. (Ex. 24:12-14)

E. Aaron stood by Moses' side when the Israelites rebelled. (Num. 16:1-3)

F. Aaron provided the leadership for the religious life of the nation of Israel. (Ex. 28:1)

III. AARON: A MAN WHO MADE MISTAKES.

A. Aaron made a mistake when he listened to the children of Israel and built a golden calf for them to worship. (Ex. 32:1-35)

B. Aaron made a mistake when he spoke against Moses for marrying the Cushite (Ethiopian) woman. Aaron also allowed jealousy to get the best of him. (Num. 12:1-15)

C. Aaron made a mistake when he and Moses let their anger get the best of them. (Num. 20:2-13)

CONCLUSION.

A. When we look at the life of Aaron, we find a man who was faithful to God, but who did make mistakes. We also see a man who, despite his weaknesses and failures, was used as an instrument to bring about God's will, the releasing of the nation of Israel.

B. Just as Aaron was obedient to serving the Lord, so too must we be obedient. We must not allow our weaknesses and imperfections to hinder our service to the Lord. Let us not forget the Lord's reply to Paul when he

prayed that his infirmity be removed. The Lord told Paul, "My grace is 12:9, NKJV)
